YOUR DATA
Privacy Policy.
Last updated 30 October 2026
ReelScale keeps as little about you as it can. You can browse and filter films without an account. We only store personal data when you create an account to vote.
Who runs ReelScale
ReelScale is run by Darren DeBattista, Malta, who is the data controller for this site. For any privacy question or request, email contact@reelscale.app.
What we store
- Your account: your email address and your password. The password is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form, so nobody can read it, including us.
- Your scores: the category scores you give films, and when you gave them.
- Technical logs: our hosting and database providers keep short-lived logs, such as IP addresses and request times, to run the service and stop abuse.
- Browser storage: your browser keeps your login session and your light/dark mode choice. These are needed for the site to work; we use no advertising or tracking cookies.
We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
What other visitors see
Films show combined scores: averages, vote counts and how votes are spread. Your email is never shown, and your individual scores are not shown next to your identity.
Why we use it
- To run your account and count your votes. This is needed to provide the service you signed up for (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
- To keep the site secure and the scores fair, for example by blocking automated sign-ups. This is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)).
- To send account emails, such as confirming your address or resetting your password. We don't send newsletters.
Services that handle your data for us
- Supabase stores the database and handles logins. Our database is hosted in the European Union.
- Cloudflare hosts the website, checks that sign-ups and logins come from real people (Turnstile), and forwards emails sent to our contact address.
- Resend sends account emails.
- GitHub stores private, encrypted backup copies of the database for up to 30 days.
Some of these providers may process data outside the EU. Where they do, they rely on safeguards approved by the European Commission, such as Standard Contractual Clauses. Film information comes from TMDB; we send them no information about you.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and scores until you delete your account. When you do, your email, password and scores are deleted straight away from the live database. Backup copies are deleted automatically within 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it. To delete everything at once, use Delete my account on your Account page. For anything else, email contact@reelscale.app and we'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to Malta's data protection authority, the Information and Data Protection Commissioner (idpc.org.mt).
Age
Accounts are for people aged 16 or over, because films are rated on sexual and violent content.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your data, we'll tell account holders by email first.
